Mid-Season Report
In our experience this year has been a difficult year for turkey hunting. The birds are still henned up and in large groups which makes catching the eye of a gobbler even more difficult. These gobblers seem to lack the behaviors and interests of typical spring turkeys. But who could blame them when this weather is 80+ degrees one day and 40 degrees and raining the next. In my opinion, we skipped spring and I feel the birds did too. The Toms that we have encountered seem to be decoy shy, even to hen decoys, and react minimally to any type of calling strategy. Although we have closed the deal on a few gobblers, it definitely took trials and tribulations to find the perfect combination of strategies to intrigue them. As we go into the second half of the season we have high hopes for more springtime activity from these wild rios.
